Shane Waltz is a 21‑year‑old, Phoenix‑based freelance lighting designer and electrician specializing in music, theatre, and dance. A third‑year Theatre Design & Production major at Arizona State University, Shane has over seven years of experience spanning lighting design, lighting technology and maintenance, electrician work, rigging, scenic construction, and sound technology. He has collaborated with numerous directors including Chris Hamby and Chanel Bragg, and with designers such as Jeff Davis, Ryan Terry, and Ethan Steimel. He served as Resident Designer and Electrician for a season at TheaterWorks Arizona, spent three years on staff at the Chandler Center for the Arts, and works regularly as overhire crew for Arizona Theatre Company. Shane has also mentored and taught high‑school groups in the practice and execution of lighting design and electrics.

Recent credits and honors include:

  • AriZoni Award for Lighting Design for the 2024 Sondheim Tribute Revue at TheaterWorks Arizona

  • AriZoni Nomination for Lighting Design for Frozen Jr. at TheaterWorks Arizona (2024)

  • BroadwayWorld Phoenix Awards nomination for Lighting Design for the 2024 Sondheim Tribute Revue at TheaterWorks Arizona

  • Lighting Designer for the English World Premiere of Eva Luna at Arizona State University (2024)

Shane has an insatiable desire to challenge expectations and elevate every story he works on. He approaches each project as an opportunity to sculpt atmosphere, shape the emotional impact of scenes, and amplify storytelling through light, always seeking new ways to enthrall audiences. Though he has not yet toured nationally, he draws on both his advanced technical expertise and creative adaptability in every production.

When he’s not in the theatre, Shane can be found relaxing, dancing, or sucking down a cold brew and sharing photos of his pets: his bull terrier Rigatoni (aka Rigg), his dog Remy, orange cat Pumpkin, highway rescue Pete the Cat, and cat Lucy who walked up to his door three years ago while he plans his next show.
